Interview 10-17-08 with Laura Murray of PageantZine.com with Stephanie Sims, Director of the Gasparilla Pageant.
What got you started producing pageants?
In the early nineties, I found myself alone with a three year old daughter who was beautiful... She had been in several baby pageants. I took my knowledge of special events and put on my first pageant. I had done modeling myself for about 10 years before that.
Was your daughter in that first pageant?
Well, sort of. She was there. Let's say that! We had a very nice, long "T" runway. I had never seen a "T" runway at a pageant before, but I thought it would be fun. Perfect for high fashion competition, right? Back then, I didn't know it, but what I actually produced was more of a modeling "walk-off" than a traditional pageant.
Like Zoolander?
It was great...
Your daughter was 3? She walked on the "T" runway?
She walked down to the end, sat down at the very end...and just took her shoes off. Just sat there.
Oh, my.
Every other contestant seemed to enjoy it, though! We had a lot of contestants from modeling schools and part of what I awarded them were one-on-ones with agents and casting people.
So, will this pageant be a modeling competition?
Modeling part will definitely be a part of this one, as well as many of the others we will be producing in the future. In this Pageant, we have the traditional pageant, the SuperModel and the SpokesModel divisions. And a talent portion.

Gasparilla Pageant Commercial!
Okay, we're shooting a commercial!
Any new Contestant in the Gasparilla Pageant or previous royalty is welcome to join us!
Working on the details of the shoot now - Possibly part will be in Hernando County and part in Tampa.
Stay posted!
We will be creating 2 different spots and a behind the scenes documentary! It'll be great.
The short Princess says she needs to be the star of the commercial...We'll see!

Running like crazy again today!
Photo below the inside lobby of the Carnival Sensation cruise ship we plan to be on over the summer! We are going down to the Bahamas in late July with some of the Winners and are going to be highlighted on T.V. there! More in that later....

I went to the Rattlesnake Pageant to judge this weekend! What an amazing event the Director, Donna, and her crew put on there! I was so very impressed! They know how to have a great time in San Antonio, that's for sure!
My little Princesses came along with me. The tall one cut her bangs the morning of...way too short! The short one would not leave my side for some reason - separation anxiety? Or maybe it was becasue I was sitting in the room where the food was, including cupcakes? Yeah, that's probably it.
It was so nice to see and catch up with Miss Hernando County, Tiffany Tyler and Miss Florida Galaxy, Tiffany Raia and others!
Plans are going hot and heavy for the Gaparilla Pageant! It's coming up right around the corner and I am getting so excited! We have some super cool celebrity guests starting to line up - No one will be disappointed!
Got the float for the Parade! Looking good!
